Kai Tak Sports Park Hotel Guide: 12 Best Hotels with Easy Access

About Kai Tak Sports Park

Kai Tak Sports Park, built on the site of the former Kai Tak Airport runway, covers 28 hectares and is the largest sports and entertainment complex in Hong Kong’s history. Officially opened in March 2025, the park comprises three main venues: a 50,000-seat main stadium (featuring a retractable roof), a 10,000-seat indoor sports arena, and a 5,000-seat youth sports ground. It also houses over 700,000 square feet of retail and dining space at K11 Kai Tak mall, plus a waterfront promenade and other public areas.

The main stadium is the largest performance venue in Hong Kong. Its retractable roof can close in just 30 minutes, and the acoustic design allows concerts to run at full volume without disturbing nearby residents. Since opening, it has hosted the Hong Kong Sevens 50th Anniversary tournament, as well as concerts by Mayday, SEVENTEEN, and Jay Chou. With the MAMA AWARDS and TWICE tour scheduled for late 2025, Kai Tak Sports Park has quickly become the premier destination for international concerts and sporting events in Hong Kong.

In terms of transportation, the Tuen Ma Line’s “Kai Tak Station” and “Sung Wong Toi Station” are the two nearest MTR stations. For the main stadium, take Sung Wong Toi Station Exit D and walk about 5–8 minutes. For the indoor arena, take Kai Tak Station Exit D and walk about 10 minutes. Over 60 bus routes pass through the area, and you can also take a ferry from North Point to Kowloon City Pier and walk from there — offering plenty of transportation options.

Kai Tak Sports Park Post-Event Transportation Guide

The main stadium at Kai Tak can hold 50,000 people, so post-event crowds can be massive. Here are the MTR last train times and transportation tips:

MTR Last Train Times

  • Sung Wong Toi Station (closest to main stadium): Last train toward Tuen Mun departs around 00:45; toward Wu Kai Sha around 00:53.
  • Kai Tak Station: Last train toward Tuen Mun departs around 00:43; toward Wu Kai Sha around 00:51.
  • For border-crossing passengers: The last train to Lo Wu via Tai Wai interchange on the East Rail Line departs Sung Wong Toi at approximately 22:59 and Kai Tak at approximately 23:01. If you miss it, take the East Rail Line to Sheung Shui Station and transfer to a bus.

Post-Event Transportation Tips

  • MTR: During major events, the MTR increases Tuen Ma Line service frequency to manage crowds, but both stations will be extremely congested. Consider walking to the farther Diamond Hill Station (about 20–25 minutes), which is an interchange for both the Tuen Ma Line and Kwun Tong Line — you may board faster there.
  • Special bus routes: After major events, the park operates SP-series special buses, including SP2 to Mong Kok, SP2A to Tsim Sha Tsui, SP10 to Central (Hong Kong Macau Ferry Pier), and SP1 to Hang Hau. These cover major areas across Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories — an excellent post-event option.
  • Ferry: Taking the ferry from Kowloon City Pier to North Point is a hidden route to avoid the crowds. The crossing takes about 15 minutes, with a 10–15 minute walk to the pier.
  • Taxis: A designated taxi pick-up/drop-off zone operates on Sung Wong Toi Road from 2:00 PM to midnight on event days. However, expect long queues during peak departure times, and surrounding roads may experience severe traffic congestion.
  • Parking: The main stadium has 258 spaces and the indoor arena has 154 spaces, but parking is closed to the public during major events. Public transportation is strongly recommended — do not drive to the venue.
  • “Leave Easy” platform: Download the official Kai Tak Sports Park app and use the “Leave Easy” feature to check real-time crowd density and suggested routes, helping you avoid the most congested exits.
